bags for field and foraging

what’s in your field bag?

Over in Heywood’s Meadow we are comparing what we carry in our field bags when we go exploring, studying, and journaling in nature.

Also check out the gorgeous foraging bags Emma put together, made by Melissa at Tiny Happy — they are beautiful!

Just as at home, I find we dig into things much more deeply when we have the right tools available. We bring back photos and drawings and little bits and pieces of nature along with questions and ideas, and we remember them. We curl up indoors on cold evenings in front of the fire and read about what we saw, and we get ideas for things to look for the next time. It helps knit together these different days into one continuous story about where we live and what we see.

I agree that having tools is necessary - not abundance & extravagance, just aids. A topic near and dear to my heart, will write more next time, I promise.

so agree, susana! i loved some of the ideas from the post on heywood — the glitter containers used to hold specimens, alice’s handmade memory stick holder, all the bags made from repurposed items (pants, napkins) ...

Question, What kind of water colors are pictured in your field bag? I have never seen a double tray of paints.
I love taking my kids out into the world and letting them discover what speaks to them.
You have great ideas, thanks for sharing.

it is a pebeo travel watercolor set -- it’s actually just one tray of pans and then a mixing tray, but you can either take it all apart or leave it hooked together, fan it out, and wear it on your thumb like a traditional palette.

thank you!
