I didn't know, but by happenstance I asked the boys to write their thank-you letters this morning.

You would have thought I asked Dominic to write them in his own blood. I don't think it's that he hates to write, per se, but rather that he hates to be told what to do. Grumpily, he wrote his letters, although he supposed aloud that "no one will be sending any thank-you letters to me, I bet."
