My internet community is so creative, so inspiring, so funny, so productive. I have looked at so many beautiful advent calendars and observed so many lovely family moments. I have begun to imagine Bloglines as the giant shaggy Ghost of Christmas Present from the Muppet Christmas Carol, taking my hand and leading me around the bloggy universe looking through your frosted windowpanes. (Even if you live in Australia and it's approaching summer, still, somehow, your windowpanes are frosted.)
Each morning we crack open our not-homemade LEGO Advent calendar, revealing our tiny fireman, policeman, or convict, or perhaps a tiny road barricade, giggling over where he or she or it will go in our LEGO Christmas City that is starting to take over the living room. The four of us sit around drinking coffee or tea, looking out at the snow that has transformed our view into a wonderland, counting cardinal pairs, and discussing whether the medieval knights should have their own suburb.
It doesn't really matter what your traditions are, as long as you have them.

icy panes, yes indeedy. we actually have icy panes, tree limbs and power lines now, with more to come, which in my nabe means you'd better get out the kerosene heater or have a buttload (gah i hate that word but this situation demands i use it, yes?) of firewood at the ready.
and frozen pizzas. and Swiss Miss. and jiffypop for the fireplace. and an updated basket of library books. and brownies.
ah, tradition.... ;)
i managed only to play LEGOs.
we have icy rain here, but we knew it was coming so we are stocked up with all the essentials. mm, jiffy pop.
(jack and i are building Christmas City as a *team*, i tell you. and d built a mexican restaurant today so he can officially be counted as a participant, other than criticisms and suggestions, an area the husband has well covered.)
stay warm! i hope you keep your electricity!
My 9 year old Lego obsessed son wants to come over & play!!!! He also promises to bring his new Calvin & Hobbs book!!!
Loved seeing the pictures. JUst so enjoying the discovery of your website. Although my son has tried for the past year or so to convince me to home-school him but I am skeptical of wether I would be up to it. Your adventures in schooling are not helping me!! LOL
Advent blessings to you & yours.
Laura
