terrariums again

cookie-terr.pngCookie Magazine has a great little online article about terrariums.

You may remember when we sort of discussed this earlier.

We still have the raw materials for our project sitting in a nice, neat pile (maybe with a cobweb or two) out in the barn.

I never did find the Martha Stewart Kids magazine with the instructions and photos about paludariums. While hunting for it, however, I undercovered another half-dozen MSKs in random parts of the house. So it was totally worth it.

And now, just like my favorite shelter magazines, the High and Low versions of terrarium decorating:

cookie-dino.jpg

High (classy Cookie Magazine): Terrarium, $118. Tyrannosaurus, $12.

dinotank.jpg

Low (cheap Lori's version): Aquarium, 10 bucks. Brontosaurus, $1 at dollar store.

Whatever your price point, you and the small child in your life can find happiness with a miniature jungle. Enjoy!

Very cool. My mom used to make terrariums (back in the 60s and 70s). I'm thinking we may have to make our own (freecycle here we come!).

a big, glass apple juice jar -- the kind that is narrow at the neck -- makes a great small terrarium. the narrowness makes it work well with the self-watering. you can use chopsticks to put in little plants. very fun. :^)

I can remember seeing this in MS Kids. I have no idea which issue either...but I love yours. I think my kids would find a way to make it a horse terrarium.

lol, a horse terrarium would be pretty darn cool. you could do succulents and cacti and have a desert! (cowboy movie looking) .. or hey, you could do a nice central park theme with a riding trail if that's more their style. ;^)

(of course, you're not allowed to impose your ideas on the girls! ha)

i figured out the issue -- it's winter/spring '03. i just have no idea why they canceled that magazine. although it must have been exhausting putting out such high-quality issues one after the other. maybe they didn't want to repeat themselves.

and thanks re: mine .. i don't think it could possibly be lower key than that!
