beautiful book week: found style

found2.jpg

I am waiting impatiently for my copy of Amy Butler's Midwest Modern to arrive. Of course, everybody knows about Amy Butler ... and I was trying to pick books that were a little less well known...

found5.jpgHowever, as it happens, my absolute, all-time favorite design book was written by Amy Butler and her husband David way, way back in 2003, and most of the people I show it to have never seen it. It's called Found Style: Vintage Ideas for Modern Living.

The photography is amazing, the styling is incredible, and it's a mix of vintage, country, and modern ... actually, I probably love it so much because it's my own taste.

If you haven't seen it yet, it's a really beautiful book.

And now, for something completely different. See, I'm hiding it down here so only my true fans can find it!

I'm joining the Pay It Forward craft exchange, mostly because I just happened to check Jen's blog Simply Photo right after she posted her PIF announcement and I was lucky enough to be in the first three commenters. I'm not sure who started this or where I first saw it listed, but the rules are as follows:

I will send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment on my blog requesting to join this PIF exchange. I don’t know what that gift will be yet and you may not receive it tomorrow or next week, but you will receive it within 365 days, that is my promise! The only thing you have to do in return is pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog.

I'm not even going to name the handmade item I'm going to send; I refuse to commit. I can only say it won't be a quilt. I am multi-talented. You'll just have to take your chances.

And if three people don't comment, well, hey, I still get my goodie from Jen!

I've seen that pay it forward craft exchange on other blogs and have been intrigued. I'm game. I have already planned a "pay it forward" give away for my one year blogoversary, so perhaps that would be a good time to pitch the first three person PIF exchange (November 13th). I like the no pressure, no time table approach to this kind of swap. As a true fan, I can't wait to see one of your many talents.

That's one!

Ah, Molly, my good, true fan. I'm hoping none of the family members/friends who I owe gifts to see this and think it's a way to get their stuff at least within a year from today.

Lori: I stopped in tonight to read more about "Jack's Journal" and hit some lucky timing here, I guess. Another Molly would LOVE to take part in the pay-it-forward handmade challenge. This would be really good for me and I can stretch myself creatively through a giveaway on my site.

And ... I have been all over Amy Butler's web site, was aware of this book, but have not seen it. Lovely! I intended to do floor-to-ceiling window treatments in my great room with her forest line, but may be too late. Nevertheless, I love her style. Thanks for sharing a bit about her book.

And that's three! That was easy. :^)

Sarah, I was going to make a joke about only accepting people named Molly... I took a look at your site -- beautiful photography!

Molly, this book has so many great photographs and unique stuff .. it really is fantastic. It's very spare, I would say, with industrial edge .. not what you might expect. (Doesn't feature her fabrics.) Let me know if you get your hands on it!

And thanks, you guys, for being my PIF pals. E-mail me with your snail mail addresses and I'll have something right out to you .. in the next 365 days. ;^)

Lori, I just wanted to pop in and say that I recently bought Amy Butler's new book (I resisted for a while after seeing it because of the price). Three words....IT IS GORGEOUS!

You will enjoy it for a long time to come.
